Treat the wall as a tested system
A partition combines tracks, studs, board layers, screws, jointing, insulation, openings and perimeter seals. Fire, acoustic and impact performance belongs to the complete system, not one board.
Record wall height, layers, openings, services, fixtures, moisture conditions and finish before selecting components from the current system table.
Set out axes and finished faces
Transfer the line from floor to soffit and distinguish the frame axis from the finished wall and door-frame position. Record uneven or moving substrates before fixing.
Choose channel fixings for the actual concrete, steel or timber base. Continue specified acoustic or fire seals around the perimeter.
Match stud spacing to board and height
Stud centres depend on board width, layers, wall height, frame type and system performance. Keep board edges fully supported and studs aligned.
Do not restrain a head that is designed to accommodate movement. Tall walls, deflection heads and horizontal joints require the selected system detail.
Design the door opening first
Confirm clear opening, frame size, leaf weight, swing, floor finish and head before framing. Heavy or highly used doors need their specified reinforcement.
Coordinate jambs, head and frame fixing. Avoid board joints at opening corners where the system detail requires joints to be displaced.
Route services without weakening studs
Use factory service holes where suitable and protect cables and pipes from sharp steel edges. Unplanned large notches may reduce frame stiffness.
Stagger opposite socket boxes where required and use the approved fire-stopping system for penetrations; generic foam is not evidence of fire performance.
Sequence insulation and boarding
Complete concealed supports, services, tests and records before the second face closes. Fit insulation continuously without uncontrolled compression or gaps.
Keep boards dry and flat. Follow the system for board orientation, staggered joints, screw type, length and spacing without tearing the face paper.
Prepare for heavy fixtures
Locate cabinets, screens, basins and moving equipment early. A generic cavity fixing is not suitable for every load or partition.
Install the specified backing or frame support before closure and record its position. Verify both the fixture connection and wall-system capacity.
Inspect before closure and handover
Check stud alignment, doors, services, protection, fire stopping, insulation and backing before closing the wall; label photographs by wall.
At handover inspect alignment, door operation, surfaces, joints and seals. Performance claims require evidence that the complete specified system was installed.
